It keeps up with how you really talk.
Scripts are full of prices, percentages and years, and Ectoprompt expects them the way people say them: “$5” as “five dollars” and “the 1990s” as “the nineteen nineties”. Add a line of your own or stumble over a word, and it holds your place until you are back on the script. Directions in [brackets] stay on screen for you and are never listened for.
Put the words right under your camera.
Drag the bar to move the prompter anywhere on the screen and the corner to make it any size, so the line you are reading sits just below the lens. Then set it up the way you read best: the text size and spacing, Geist or Newsreader in the weight you like, each word lit or the whole line with a marker, the backdrop behind the words, and a mirror for a glass rig or a second monitor.
Record the take while you read it.
On your phone, the script sits at the top of the screen, just under the lens, so your eyes stay close to the camera while you talk. Takes record in your phone’s best formats, up to 4K at 60 frames with HDR or Log on phones that support them, and the lens, ISO, shutter and white balance are yours to set. The level meter turns amber on loud peaks and red when the sound clips, so you know to fix it before the next take.
Run it from across the room.
Pair a second phone or computer by typing a six-digit code or scanning it, and whoever is behind the camera can move you a line forward or back, start and stop, and see the prompter just as you see it. The person holding it needs no app and no account. Filming on your own, a presentation clicker or a keyboard moves the lines with no pairing at all.
Your voice stays on your device.
Ectoprompt recognizes your speech on your phone or in your browser, so nothing you say is ever sent anywhere, and the phone keeps following you in airplane mode. Your takes are never uploaded either: they save to your phone, or download to your computer.
Write it at your desk, read it on your phone.
Scripts sync between the web and the Android app, so the one you finished at your desk is waiting when you pick up your phone. Type or paste a script, or open a Word, PDF or text file, and a Word document keeps its bold, italics and highlights to show you where the emphasis goes.

It keeps up within half a word.
In our tests, a new line typically lit up in half the time it takes to say a word. After a skip or a jump back, it found your line again in about one.
Measured on 56 test readings with synthetic voices, full of ad-libs, pauses, skips and jumps back. A word takes about 0.4 seconds at an everyday pace of 150 words a minute.
